NX Night Flying
When flying with your NX radio in the dark, selection of the correct visual mode is important. To this end, the NX radios include multiple palettes, as well as the ability to create your own. Some of these canned palettes are intended for specific purposes such as maintaining the brand appearance (the Spektrum palette), others are to enhance visibility in some lighting conditions (B&W, Legacy). There is one palette that is ideal for night use – Black/Red/Gold, or BRG.
BRG provides a black background and has most text showing in a dark red, which is often used to keep your pupils dilated for maximum ability to see your model. A few accents are shown in yellow as these can be important.
In addition, on the Preferences menu you have the ability to adjust the backlight from 10% to 100% brightness. Set to 10%, the brightness of BRG should not affect your ability to clearly see your model when night flying.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS:
From the main screen, click the roller for the Function List. Scroll down to System Setup and click. Confirm the “Are you sure?” question, and you will see the System Menu. Scroll down to Palette Utilities and click. Remember, you may also get to the System Menu by holding the roller down during power-on.
On the Palette Utilities screen select This Model. Change the selection to Black/Red/Gold. This will give you the correct palette for night flying. Other potentially-suitable palettes are B&W, Orange, Spektrum Dark, and Spektrum Hi-Viz. Experiment with the various palettes to find the one that suits your preferences, or use it as a starting point to create your own custom palette.
Press BACK to return to the System Menu. Scroll to and select Preferences. Change the Backlight from 100% down to a level that suits what you want. This will be the maximum brightness that the screen will show - the minimum brightness will always be 10%. If you select 10%, then the brightness will not change. Note that when you reduce the brightness, the screen will fade to the new value, not jump instantly. Usually 50% is a good starting point for night flying.
