NX Vario Sounds Update Procedure

There are several ways to install the NX Vario Sounds Update. Choose the method that is most convenient for you.

Method 1 – Recommended (Simplest):
Download the update directly through your radio’s WiFi interface, then use the radio’s SD menu to unpack the file. This is the easiest method and is recommended for most users.
Note: The NX7e and NX7e+ radios do not have WiFi capability, so please use Method 2, 3, or 4 for those models.

Method 2 – Fast:
Download the update from the link on our Wiki page, transfer the file to your radio using the USB interface, and then use the radio’s SD menu to unpack the file.

Method 3 – Fastest:
Download the update from the link on our Wiki page, extract the files on your PC, and then transfer them to your radio using the USB interface.

Method 4 – Alternative:
Download the updated files from the Spektrum shared drive and extract them directly to your radio using USB. This method may be more familiar to some customers since it uses the shared drive.

Method 1 – Transmitter Download and Extraction

Items required:

a)    WiFi access for your NX radio

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Power up your NX radio while holding down the roller.  This will put you on the System menu.

  1. Scroll down to WiFi Utilities

  1. If required, select Connect to Network.

  1. If required, enter the credentials for your router.

  1. On the Spektrum Menu, select “Check for Updates”

  1. Look for the update name “VARIO” – note that it will not show “installed” even if you have already installed it.  Click on it.

  1. Wait for the file to download.  It will take several minutes, during which time you will see the progress bar move and the horizontal “barber pole” rotate.

  1. When the download completes the radio will verify it.  When verification succeeds it will ask if you want to install it or not.  Select INSTALL.

  1. When the installation finishes you will be on the main screen again.

10)  Click the roller to get to the Function List.

11) Scroll down to System Setup and click.  Confirm the action when prompted.

12) Scroll down to “Transfer SD Card”

13) Make sure the SD Card says “Internal.”  If it says “External” then click on it to toggle it.

14) Change the Category to “Special Functions”

15) Change the Option to “untar (unpack)” and click

16) Select the file you just downloaded.  You may need to click on the “../” option to navigate to the root folder to find it.

17) Once you click on the file it will automatically begin the update process, showing a file-by-file progress bar and a list of updated files beneath it.  There are 160 files it will be creating, so it will take a little time.

18) When this completes it will return you to the SD menu.  Press BACK twice to return to the main screen.

Your NX radio is now updated and may be used immediately with the new vario tones.
